PORTFOLIO

For this walk-through, I’ll be auditing two sites.

Here you will see any Slow Page issues on your site.

We also saw a small correlation between page load time and Google position in our study of 2M pages.

And remember, if you want to track rankings for specific keywords in the long-term, try Rank Tracker.

Example:

Content duplicated across multiple pages on your site is bad. But when it’s duplicated on other website’s, it’s even worse.

A good meta description should communicate key USPs for the product or service you are offering.

I think that does a pretty good job.

We’re looking for any noticeable spikes or dips in traffic.

Step 9. Check for structured data errors.

It takes hours, not weeks, and you won’t need a degree in computer science to follow along.

This could be for any number of reasons (e.g., out of date content, Google penalty, etc.)

Site Explorer > Enter domain > Organic Search > Organic Keywords > Position (5–10) > Volume (1K+)

To check for this, you will need access to your site’s header.php, .htaccess, or server access file.

Step 8. Check that your site (and individual pages) load FAST.

You can use a tool like this to check for thin content manually.

Too much of it and your site can get crushed by Panda.

But a well-written and enticing meta description can help get you more clicks.

Go to Google and search for your brand name.

To be honest, the non-www to www issue (or vice-versa) is rarely a problem, but I have seen a lot of sites with redirection issues for http to https.

The journey of a thousand optimizations typically begins with a single step – the SEO audit.

An SEO audit will reveal problems with any site’s SEO so you can address them and start ranking where you belong.

An SEO audit is your roadmap for how you’ll eventually get there.

Read The Ultimate SEO Audit Checklist to learn:

Well, we’re here to help you get the higher rankings, traffic, and conversions you desire.

That’s where the SEO audit comes into play.

That means maximizing your visibility in the search results of Google and other search engines is essential.

Where you want to be is everywhere people are searching for you – your products, your services, or the things you know a lot about.

Do you know the most important areas of a website you should be assessing?

The Ultimate SEO Audit Checklist – authored exclusively for Search Engine Journal by SEO expert Brian Harnish – is a comprehensive list of all the important items that should be included in your SEO audit.

What is an SEO audit?

For most SEO professionals, an in-depth SEO audit is Step #1 after signing a new client or going in-house at a new company.

An SEO audit refers to the process of evaluating various elements of a website that impact its performance in organic search.

Is your SEO audit as thorough as it could be?

You have to know where you are to get to where you want to be.

Why is an SEO audit important?

An SEO audit is important because it reveals problems with any site’s SEO so you can address them and start ranking where you belong.
