In fact, Google uses the CTR when deciding how relevant your content is for a specific keyphrase and whether to rank your site for it.

Please feel free to use the quick links below to jump straight to different sections:

With AIOSEO, you get all the advanced SEO tools you’ll need to optimize your site to rank high in search engines and drive more traffic.

Now that you know what an SEO title or title tag is, let’s take a look at why it’s important.

Where Is the SEO Title in WordPress?

Even if your site ranks well, a good title can be the make-or-break factor in determining whether someone clicks through to your website or not.

We hope this post helped you learn how to change the SEO title in WordPress. We recommend that you use the title analyzer to help you optimize your SEO titles, and you’ll improve your rankings and click-through rates to your site in a heartbeat.

Do you want to know how to change the SEO title in WordPress?

That’s it! Changing your SEO title in WordPress can’t get much easier.

If your title isn’t good enough, people will ignore it and move on to other results, which will result in lower CTR and rankings.

…if you want to take your SEO efforts to the next level, we give tons of great tips on how to improve search engine rankings and optimize your blog posts. Also, don’t forget to track your results using Google Analytics.

Here’s how it can look:

To check your title analysis, you simply scroll down to the Page Analysis section and click on the Title tab.

After installing and activating the AIOSEO plugin, you navigate to Search Appearance in the All in One SEO menu and click on the Global Settings tab.

Why Is the SEO Title Important?

You can also type in your own SEO title in the Site Title field.

AIOSEO offers powerful SEO tools and features like:

AIOSEO will give you the recommended characters for your title. It’s recommended to use a maximum of 60 characters. If you use more than that, Google will cut off your SEO title in the search results, and show an ellipsis, “…” to imply that your SEO title has been cut off.

The SEO title or title tag is also shown at the top of the web browser where it’s used as a placeholder. This makes it easier for users that have many browser tabs open to navigate back to your website.

Before getting into the nitty gritty of how to change the SEO title, let’s explain what an SEO title is, why it’s important, and where you can find it on your WordPress website.

That’s why optimizing your SEO title is crucial to get people to click through to your site and improve rankings in search engines.

What Is an SEO Title in WordPress?

To change your title, you can simply click on one of our smart tags with different variables in the Site Title field. For example, if you click on the + Site Title tag, you’ll get a drop-down with different variables you can use for your SEO title.

Next, scroll down in the same window to the Home Page section. You’ll first see a Preview that shows an example of how your content may look in the search results based on the Title and Meta Description you enter.

Did you know that 36% of SEO experts think the title is the most important SEO element? Yet many website owners don’t know how to change and optimize their titles for SEO and clicks.

Just like when changing the SEO title for your homepage, you can either click on one of the smart tags or type in your own SEO title. You can also click on View all tags or type the hash character ( # ) in the field to display a list of available tags to choose from.

To better illustrate how it can look like, here are examples of SEO titles for the best WordPress SEO plugin, All in One SEO (AIOSEO):

So to put it simply, your post or page’s title is for people who are already visiting your website, and the SEO title is for people who are meant to visit your site.

AIOSEO even analyses your title and lets you know if your title has the correct length, has a number, and uses power or sentiment words.

Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » What’s the difference between post title and SEO title?

I’m using my favorite Yoast SEO plugin on my website best heated jackets but I’m confused about post title and SEO title, it irritates me much I don’t really know what is best practice to do, can you please me what to do with it and apply best practice? Thanks!

When you say ‘the post title’ I’m assuming what you are referring to is when you first start creating a page in WordPress and your enter a title for it, such as in the image here. That title is essentially the title of your content, which is meant as the title that the site’s user’s read to get an overview of what the page is about. However, the actual HTML tag that title is, is <h1> which is the first header, like in an outline. And H1 is so important, you should only have a single <h1> tag.

Now, what we call the ‘SEO Title’ is the title that get’s read as metadata by Google. It’s not visible as content on the page that the user sees. We call it the ‘SEO Title’ to try to draw the distinction that it’s the title that is both read by a Search Engine, and displayed in it’s results. What we call the ‘SEO Title’ in the plugin is output as the <title> tag within the <head> part of the document, which is not what user’s see, and is mainly to be read by search engines.
